It’s been two weeks since Bajsa and Albi’s babies hatched, and the little ones are doing great! After spending their first 14 days together in a cozy box with a water dish and very minimal handling, it was finally time for them to move into their next “big kid” setup—the rack system.
Our rack system is made up of small boxes, each with a heating pad in the back that’s controlled by a thermostat. It keeps the temperature nice and steady—not too hot, not too cool—just right for young western hognoses.
We set them up in pairs, so that meant eight boxes total. Each one got labeled, and we took notes on who’s who, based on their colors and patterns. Even though they all look fairly similar right now, they each have their own subtle markings. It makes ID-ing them a fun little challenge!
As we gently moved the babies into their new spaces, it was sweet watching them check out their surroundings. With more room and a warm, quiet environment, they settled in really quickly. The heat pad helps mimic the warmth they’d naturally seek out in the wild, so it didn’t take long for them to feel at home.

For now, the babies will stay in pairs. Down the line, once they’ve grown a bit more, we’ll likely move them into individual tubs to make sure each one has plenty of space and resources. But for now, they seem to enjoy being with a sibling—especially since they’ve been together since day one.
It’s always so rewarding watching these little ones thrive. Each one is special in its own way, and it’s exciting to see how they develop over time. We’ll definitely be sharing more updates as they grow, and we’re looking forward to the next steps on their journey.
And as always - stay happy, stay curious, and give your hoggie a gentle boop from me.
